The penalties are extremely high and applied even for simple omissions or minor errors on the shipping documents and cargo information. Fines may reach up to 200% of the cargo CIF value and / or incur on loss of all goods. To avoid such fines and penalties, the GLOBEX Team suggests all partners to check the cargo in advance by verifying the number of packages, dimensions, weight and identification labels containing shipper/consignee information, bill of lading/air waybill numbers, weight and volume details. Cargo weight discrepancies is a major issue that affects almost all importers in Brazil, the legislation only accepts a maximum difference of 5% between the declared and verified weight. They also suggest verifying the pertinent documents that should contain all information of buyer, seller, cargo information, Incoterm and cargo value.
