# Recommendations on Online Fraud protection

We would like to share with you just a few basic recommendations on how to protect yourselves against online fraud: Security needs to be multi-layered so that numerous obstacles will be in the way of the intruder. Ensure security is installed at every possible entry point. Identify all machines connected to the Internet and assess the defense that's engaged. Identify whether your servers are utilizing any ports that have been known to represent insecurities. Ensure you are utilizing the most up-to-date patches for your software. Don't open spam. Delete it unread. Never reply to unsolicited emails or websites requesting personal information or access details to your accounts Avoid logging to your accounts from public computers or not proved as secure Regularly change your passwords and PIN's Have a primary and secondary email address - one for people you know and one for all other purposes. Always type in the website address yourself rather than clicking on a link provided. Contact the actual business that supposedly sent the email to verify if the email is genuine. Ensure websites are secure prior to submitting your credit card number. Monitor your credit statements monthly for any fraudulent activity. Report unauthorized transactions to your bank or credit card company as soon as possible. Review a copy of your credit report at least once a year. Fraud and scams come in many forms and are becoming more pervasive and sophisticated than ever and anybody can be tricked. We would like to recommend you to visit www.fraud.org to learn more about the types of fraud, to recognise early warning signs and most important to avoid becoming a victim. There are many other official sources of information, it would also be interesting to visit your local consumer protection office and reporting centre for fraud and internet crime websites.
