BLUE FREIGHT, your Pangea partner in Germany, in cooperation with FIBS LOGISTICS, your Pangea partner in China, has successfully handled the shipment of mobile capsule houses (tiny homes) from Qingdao, China to Hamburg, Germany. This project marks the first direct import of such units into the German market.
The shipment included two capsule houses and spare parts, transported on 2 × 40’ Flat Racks and 1 × 40’ High Cube container. The first flat rack measured 11.6 m × 3.4 m × 3.4 m and weighed 9.5 tons, while the second measured 8.6 m × 3.4 m × 3.4 m and weighed 6.5 tons. The 40HC container carried a payload of 7 tons of spare parts.
According to the supplier, capsule houses have previously been shipped to other parts of Europe, but this was the first direct import into Germany. BLUE FREIGHT was first approached in April 2024 to provide a quotation and shipping solution. Since this commodity had never been imported into Germany before, the customer was concerned about customs clearance, applicable duty/VAT rates, and product safety requirements.
In summer 2024, BLUE FREIGHT’s in-house customs agency was nominated to conduct a full feasibility study for this specific business case. The team consulted with the responsible authorities and provided the customer with a detailed survey report and recommendations for action.
In close cooperation with their long-term partner FIBS LOGISTICS, the team coordinated factory pickup in Qingdao, flat rack stuffing, and shipment to Hamburg. Upon arrival, BLUE FREIGHT managed unloading, de-lashing, and transloading onto flatbed trailers, securing the necessary transport permits. During on site delivery, they coordinated the unloading of the houses via mobile crane and successfully moved the cargo to the requested position. The operation was supervised on site by Operations Manager Stefan Langner, ensuring that all service levels were met.
Following this successful project, the importer plans to import additional capsule houses for direct delivery to individual buyers, with BLUE FREIGHT nominated as the lead logistics provider for future shipments.
